Bogdan's Shoutout #5 - Looking back to look forward (with radical candour)
Both of my parents were members of the Communist Party. More or less like anybody else, for a good job and secure life, doing shit to survive. This is how the times were back then in the Eastern Block.
After the Iron Curtain fell, being a teenager and very upset, I looked straight in their eyes and asked with a terrible voice “why have you done this? why didn’t you make anything to stop it?”… They just looked at me. Just looked.
Now, being an adult, having children and developing software for a lifetime, I started to wonder… What if, on a given day, my own children will look straight in my eyes and will ask, with a terrible voice: “why have you done this?”
> speaking about future, to read: Chinese employees working in factories, in the military, and on trains are being given hats and helmets equipped to monitor their brain waves. Now see where I’m coming from?
> same, but to think: I wouldn’t say the Fossil’s acquisition by Google is about building the Pixel Watch, but about healthcare. And the multi-trillion war with Apple and Amazon on who will own this honey pot.
> managing the truth becomes the main competency of the tech giants. No, they shouldn’t fund journalism.
> predicting 2019: a bevy of consumer and tech firms enter into strategic alliances and partnerships with only one objective - push back on Amazon. From Scott Galloway, here.
> since China is ruled by socialism with Chinese characteristics, there will be a financial crisis with Chinese attributes. Forget the Trade War. China Is Already in Crisis, an analysis to read (surprisingly, not politically biased)
> to watch and eat an ice cream: as usual, a great keynote from Mind The Product, speaking about things that most of us are struggling with. My favorite part, (why) decisions are made illogically most of the time (because humans are cognitive biased).
> and, the funny one: an Orwellian map about human stereotypes you find in the digital development teams (mouse over on your favorites)
